This is a magical world that is on the way to being another classic.
I want to run out and show it to kids near me! 5 stars!"

Mica and the Legend of the Superstitions is a wonderful world where Spinicals and Tells are starting to co-exist peacefully. This magical world is filled with excitement and friendship! I loved learning all the amazing powers Spinical kids can develop. The way The Spinbots are controlled by their Imperia yet they are still treated so kindly. There is so much beautiful Southwest culture spread throughout the whole book. It has beautiful scenery set in Arizona. It is also very funny with all the wonderful antics like a stink bomb that could get someone in a lot of trouble.

From preteen up, the whole family will love this novel and feel right at home at the White Quartz Palace.

Mica Powers and the Legend of the Superstitions is a children's fantasy novel by MSV Walker.

Mica Powers is already thirteen years old, but his powers as a Spinical have yet to show. He is still haunted by the memories of when his mother was taken away from him by the leader of the Dreads, Deedra. Alongside his friends, the twins Kevin and Kelly, Mica attends the Domain Arizona School of Spinical Studies, where youngsters learn to manifest and use their Imperia. Estee Bradford, an orphan, is the new girl in school, and Mica discovers he and Estee are the only two Wildcards in their class. Meanwhile, the Dreads are searching for a powerful weapon, and Mica is the only one who can stop them. How will Mica and his friends fare against a face-off with the Dreads?

Filled with magic, mystery, and intrigue, Mica Powers and the Legend of the Superstitions is an action-packed fantasy ride you don't want to end.

If you're a fan of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, this book will be right up your alley.

Author MSV Walker has built a wondrous and imaginative fantasy world featuring a magic system that is distinctly authentic and intriguing. Walker provides bits and pieces of lore about the world organically throughout the story, and it makes the setting very immersive for the reader. The characters are likable and easy to root for. Mica, Estee, the twins, and Moonshadow were my favorite characters of the bunch. I also thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between Mica and his friends and their humorous interactions.

In conclusion, I heartily recommend this book to both preteen and young adult readers."

"Mica Powers and the Legend of the Superstitions is a heartfelt, sometimes messy, but deeply imaginative ride. It’s perfect for teens and adults who love fantasy with a beating heart and don’t mind getting a little weird. If you liked Percy Jackson but wished it had more ghosts, mystery, and desert heat, this one’s for you."

Drawing inspiration from classic magic-academy fantasies while forging its own path, the first entry in Walker’s promising series stars Mica Powers, a 13-year-old daredevil who travels the Superstition Mountains on a thunder cycle. While searching for his kidnapped mother, he dreams of spinning storms like the rest of his friends. Along the way, he meets newcomer Estee Bradford, an orphan sold for her powers by cruel foster parents. As Mica and Estee’s powers manifest, another power sleeps, hunted by those with evil intentions. Entangled in this wild clash, Mica and Estee must use their new abilities to uncover the legend at the heart of the Superstition Mountains.

As students at the Domain Arizona School of Spinical Studies, Mica and his perceptive pals star in a spellbinding, swiftly paced introduction to this magical world. Walker’s vivid imagery fully immerses the reader in each surprising scene: “Rolling waves of thunder echoed over the ice-covered ground, and the odd sound of a woman’s laughter reverberated everywhere.” Every quirk of the Spinicals colors their culture, whether it’s their allergy to rubber or the glitter in their hair, and the Domain Arizona reflects this vivid inventiveness with its landscapes of copper, silver, and lapis lazuli. Walker and the Spinicals stir feelings of awe, and their mythic feats keep the story fresh and exciting.

The wonder of Spinical magic is balanced by relatable characters and a commitment to emotional realism, no matter what powers they wield or dangers they face. Mica himself has a reckless, passionate charm and a yearning for his mother that pulls at the heartstrings. Estee, too, evokes sympathy with a life so loveless she questions even the smallest acts of kindness. The Spinicals all boast distinct personalities that are a joy to watch in action, especially when they work together. Adolescent readers will find them easy to relate to and root for. A thrilling start to a series full of whimsy and passion.

Takeaway: Electrifying opener to an action-packed, character-rich YA fantasy.
